Intro to Gender and Women's Studies
During my first semester, I was in the fortunate position of being able to take a course at Fort Lewis College. I chose to take Gender and Women's Studies 101 because I realized it was the perfect opportunity to begin considering what I want my college experience to look like. My GWS course was an incredible experience; I learned more things about gender and women's role in the world than I would have anywhere else, and I also realized that I have a true passion about this subject. During this course, we focused on everything from Theoretical Perspectives to Global Politics. Additionally, we conducted two projects throughout the course of the semester. The first was a critical analyses of the book, Dead Man Walking, by Sister Helen Prejean. The purpose of this essay was to find connections between capital punishment discussed in the book, and topics regarding gender studies. My Dead Man Walking essay is the first document posted beneath this paragraph. The second project that we worked on was a Photovoice Methodology research paper which took a marginalized sector of women and analyzing why they experience struggles in their community through images. That can be found below the Dead Man Walking essay. The Gender and Women's Studies course was an invaluable course that taught me more than I could ever have imagined.
