Art and Polynomials
The focus of this project was to learn about polynomials. It began by finding two polynomial curves within a picture of our choosing. Once we found the desired curves, we plotted the points on a transparent sheet of graph paper and using those points, wrote polynomial equations. Once that was done, we created our own original picture based off of the initial curves.
Project Reflection
I thought that this project was a good way to integrate math and visual aspects. My favorite part was creating our own picture based off of the curves of the original image, I found that it challenged my creative thinking and that I had to think "outside of the box". The main problem that I had with this project was that it was split up before and after LINK. I find that having to come back from the internship and remember the mathematical process was challenging. I think that it would have been more beneficial to either finish the project before LINK, or begin it after we came back.
The biggest challenge for me during this project was writing the equations. It was a long process for me to learn the correct way to learn the equations, but once I got a solid understanding, that aspect became easier for me.
Overall, I thought that this project was an interesting way to incorporate project based learning into Algebra 2 and I would recommend that it gets repeated next year!
