Dia de los Muertos
The Día de Los Muertos project was an opportunity for the students to learn more about the Mexican culture while incorporating it into out project. We chose either a family member, friend or pet that we have lost and in past tense Spanish, we wrote two paragraphs about the chosen deceased. We then created a piece of art using Mexican style to represent our deceased and activities that they participated in. Finally, we exhibited our art and writing at the St Hearts Catholic Church.

Reflection
I really enjoyed the Dia de Los Muertos project because it was a perfect opportunity to learn about the Latin American culture as well as Day of the Dead. Dia de Los Muertos is a time that the Latin American culture the spirits of their deceased loved ones. On this day, the dead are allowed to return to the Earth. The families pay tribute to their deceased with festivals, food, drink, and fun. It is a way to make death a normal part of life and a celebration of the passed on loved ones. Generally, families erect an altar to your deceased loves ones with their photo and you place food/drink/etc...that they enjoyed in life on the altar for them to feel at home. During this project, I focused on my deceased cat and I am proud of how the art piece turned out. Something that I found difficult was the writing. I am somewhat of an "inexperienced" Spanish speaker, so applying all of the rules was challenging. If I were to do this project a second time, I would be sure to include how my cat died in my writing piece. I completely missed that section f the writing and I think it would have benefited my story greatly.
